I had read a couple of weeks ago that there was going to be a public service announcement featuring Senator John McCain tagged with "Pearl Harbor". The subject matter has to do with guns and school violence. I don't believe I've seen any discussion here on that. Have any policies been set about how this PSA will be shown or if it will be shown? Is it too political? Was this done to appease Congress by the MPAA? Not exactly what I wanted to see before a good war movie.

We are running the John McCain ad right now on two out of nine prints. It was sent to us by Screenvision. This is my take on it:

McCain is himself, squinting, tight-jawed, and wooden in appearence, he seems squimish in front of the camera. As a gun owner I don't feel talked down as I would if some ultra-liberal idiot like Uma Thurman, Ben Affleck, or the ulimate: Barbara Streisand were addressing me. McCain does present validity in that way. Now as for the mechanics of the ad, we were told to show it on all films EXCEPT those rated "G". The run dates are May 18 - June 14.

I'm not sure if one of these ads will be included with your print(s) of Pearl Harbor, but this is a film by Buena Vista and they DO NOT permit ads not sanctioned by the Disney Intelligence Agency on their films. I have been told that Buena Vista could pull their prints from theaters who run excessive ads on the front of them. Is this true? We do not put any ads on Buena Vista (including Miramax) films . . . period.

we have been told that it is ok to place add package on buena vista films that have the touchstone and hollywood pictures banners. We are not to put them on any film with the walt disney banner. Miramax is a seperate entity they handle there own release not buena vista. Therefor, they are not subject to any rule.

Streisand said she would leave the country if Bush became president, why is the bitch still in the country? Same for the traitor Hanoi Jane.

They're all a bunch of a**holes!!! Every damn one of them!!! Say one thing--do another. If you're gonna go, then GO! Believe me, I'm more conservative in my rant than I am in my politics, but the ultra liberal (elite Hollywood types) absolutely turn my stomach. They have no clue, don't want a clue, and use the bulls**t lines about "feelings", "dignity", "spirt", etc, etc, etc, to rule their lives. And if you don't follow this socialist crap, you are the ENEMY.

Aaron,

You may want to double check your ad policy fo rthis film. You heard right about pulling bookings due to ad violations. Get your print pulled and stick your theatre with the lost film rent that they will still be obligated to pay and someone will NOT be happy. Not telling you your job by any means, but I'd hate to see anyone violating these damn booking agreement policies, even tho they are getting worse and worse.. Exhibitors should unite and put an end to this Episode 1/PHarbor gestapo style of bokking agreements. If 2 or 3 of the MAJOR players stepped up together and collectively said we will NOT agree to this 80% 6 week lock in in our largest house(s).. the distributors could not feasibly rule the market as they do currently... Is it me, or does anyone else see what I'm saying here???

Oh, like as if a few of the major chains got together and told the studios that if they did not receive their film prints in by Wednesday for a Friday opening that they would refuse to run them until Saturday? Yup, that would work awful nicely...but they won't do it. Even though it would be a payroll savings for the theaters, the studios are looked upon as entities not to mess with in any capacity, and they will continue to rule more and moreso the way theaters are ran.

You know, this "you can't move the print for 6 weeks crap" benfits no one.. Since corp was unwilling to give up our 2 600 seaters for 6 weeks, Pearl only gets one of them.. The other 2 Pearls are in 300 seaters... The net result is that we will have 900 fewer Pearl seats per day than we would if BV wasn't so demanding. They better hope word of mouth is good, because if its bad, the 900 people turned away each day of the weekend may decide just not to see it.
