Who runs the marketing departments at studios? I sometimes wonder if they have any idea what other films are being released. My marketing brickbat award for the month goes to Touchstone/Disney. Here's why:

For the last two weeks, the Coen Brothers (Fargo, Raising Arizona, The Big Lebowski, etc) first feature "Blood Simple" has been opening in major markets via USAFilms. Touchstone is releasing the Coen brothers new movie "O Brother Where Art Thou" this fall. We already have the poster. I called national screen to request trailers and was told they weren't available yet. Doesn't it seem to you that the audience for the rerelease of the Coen Brothers first film would be interested in and a key audience for their next film? Does to me. And the film is done - it premiered at Cannes in May - so its not like one of these effects pictures that is being rushed to completion. In my estimation Disney really dropped the ball on this one.
