I meant to write this up the other day when I watched the movie and just realized that I forgot to do that.

Suburbicon is about 80% of a pretty good movie. The story of the murder and the unravelling of the hero's life is top notch and the sets, the costumes and the colours are really something to behold.

However, there is a sub-plot about racism that doesn't really add anything to the main story and it isn't sufficiently developed to be a story in its own right either. So you have about 20% of the movie that's more-or-less a waste of time since it's not advancing the main story and serves no real purpose. If they had left that part out they would have had a better movie with a lot more impact.

The good parts of the movie (the 80%) are really good, though. I quite enjoyed it, overall.
