By sheer chance, I caught this movie on Starz. The opening scene grabbed me before I could change the channel.

A soldier and a college student fall in love. They stay in touch via a series of letters. And, well, to tell you much more than that would really involve spoiling a few of the movie's surprises.

This movie features some beautiful cinematography, with many scenes shot on location in Charleston, South Carolina. The fine cast is led by Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried as the lovers, and it's also nice to see Richard Jenkins (Six Feet Under) and Henry Thomas (E.T.) in supporting roles.
