Every once and a while Nicolas Cage gets a script that he says yes to, that is actually a great choice. This is one of those movies. It really is amazing at how great of an actor Cage is, if he just showed some discretion when deciding what to make he could be huge.

Werner Herzog brings a documentary style feel to this film about the murder of 5 Senegalese Immigrants in post Katrina New Orleans. The movie opens on Cage's character making a bet over a mans life, he ultimately save's the mans life. Not before screwing up his back in the process which leads him down a very dark path of addiction and bad choices. Very solid cast her playing the supporting characters to Cage's character.

I can't say enough how good this movie is. If its any where near you please go see it.

4.5/5 [thumbsup]

What relation does this movie have to the original Bad Lieutenant, starring Harvey Keitel and directed by Abel Ferrara?

Is this a sequel only in name or what? Pretty freaking strange. It seems like the marketing department needs a drop kick in their collective face for reusing a movie title from what seems like a totally unrelated film. It's like rap music that samples sounds from Van Halen albums. Lame. Hopefully only the name is lame. But someone needs a drop kick in the face for this nonsense.

It's neither a sequel nor remake. It's Werner Herzog, notorious but talented nutcase, taking the same idea and doing it his way. Herzog and Ferrara seem to be carrying out a pseudo feud over it.

Like Martin said, has nothing to do with the first one. Herzog wanted to just call it Port of Call - New Orleans but the studios put Bad Lieutenant on the front. Word out of the studio is they want to make it a "franchise" but not with Herzog involved.

Demetris I don't really think I spoiled anything [Razz] Said incident is just a stepping stone for all the things that happen.

Does anyone know why this movie did not have a wide release?

It was pretty good. It has a big name, Mendes co-stars.

I was shocked to find out that it only made 1.5 mil in North America
