Hoo-boy, this one was bad. I wasn't a fan of the original series, but I can at least appreciate the cheesy low budget effects, and the light hearted tone. This film adaptation is all over the place, never quite being able to decide if it wants to appeal to kids or adults. You'll literally see fart jokes one second and graphic sexual innuendo the next.

The story is totally fragmented and hard to follow, but even if you could follow it, it wouldn't make a difference, because the story makes no sense anyways. Nothing here is funny at all, and the big budget effects take away any charm the original show may have had.

Will Ferrel is his usual self, and has zero range as an actor, he plays the exact same lunatic in every film he's in. Danny McBride adds nothing at all to the film, and Ann Friel is cute, and tries her best, but the material here is just so awful that even she can't save it.

This one was truely awful, and was far and beyond the worst I've seen so far this year.

Did you expect anything different from a Will Ferrell movie?

Regardless, you need to start reviewing more movies, since you obviously have some taste. [Wink]

The only reason I didn't walk out was because I was the only person watching the dry run. I went in with low expectations and this movie probably exceeded my lowest. The only thing decent Will Ferrell has made - at least as a leading actor - is Stranger than Fiction.

Saw this with my son at Becky's D/I, Berlinsville, PA, on their big screen (number 1).

Note to self: don't see anymore movies with Will Ferrell in them.

I'm sorry, this guy just isn't funny. He wasn't funny on SNL, and he isn't funny in this. Oh, he thinks he's funny and he tries to act funny, but he's not there. I wanted to laugh in this movie, I really, really did; and I tried - but it didn't happen.

Oh, the first 10 minutes geared up real good and generated exciting possibilities for the rest of the movie, but it didn't deliver. I was very disappointed. Not that I was ever a fan of the TV show, I wasn't. I disliked the crappy video effects (although I liked the 16mm stop motion dinosaur footage, which they never seemed to have enough of). Come to think of it, I've never cared much for any Krofft brothers show.

.5 stars out of 5.

I thought Will Ferrell was decent in Stranger than Fiction, but then that was not a typical Will Ferrell movie or even a typical comedy genre movie either.

In terms of regular comedy genre shows, I think Will Ferrell is best at being a supporting player. I liked Old School. Wedding Crashers is another movie that limited Ferrell's screen time. As the lead in a movie his antics lose their novelty very fast.
