While James Foley gets good performances out of his cast here, and the film (presumably shot in SUPER 35) has a great visual feel to it, there is no character here, just (admittedly) well-executed plot. Which is OK for a throwaway afternoon.

Edward Burns heads up a team of con men who make the mistake of choosing a mark who is well-connected to a powerful crook (in a deliciously strange role by Dustin Hoffman). This mistake costs them, as they now have to pull a scam off for him. Adding a woman to the team (Rachel Weisz, of The Mummy fame)brings a little spice, but again, these are characters we don't care about. There are enough quirky scenes to make it a not altogether waste-of-time.

I hate Ed Burns movie presence in general and this movie did not prove me wrong. While the movie is watchable, it really is not even as good as some of the direct to cable thrillers I have seen. Ed Burns makes Ben Affleck seem like the most expressive actor around. Dustin Hoffman and Paul Giamatti add some fun touches. But overall, the movie is strict video rental at best.

Go see Identity instead.
