Correction to the title - should be 'Window to Paris'

I'm posting this here in this forum as Brad has advised that this is the correct place to post video reviews - even old ones.

For a change from French films I got this film out. It is a Russian comedy although some of the film is in french. The idea for the film is that a group of poor Russians living in St Petersburg find a window in their apartment block that leads out onto a apartment block roof in Paris ie if they walk through the window they will be instantaneously transported to Paris (and vice versa).

The concept of windows to other places and times is not new to film-making but I thought it worked quite well in the context of a window from a poor, miserable country like Russia to a relatively affluent, opportunity-filled country like France.

The film is genuinely funny and I thought well shot and acted. One of the key factors in its success is that the characters come across as quite believable.

I particularly liked the appeal to a group of children to return to Russia (in fact a monologue to the audience) as it showed that this film really had something to say - namely that it wasns't this generation's fault that things were so grim in Russia but that with persistence there could be a bright future.
