I think I would have liked this if I hadn't spent most of it thinking about two other films: Truffault's "Day for Night" (a very well done film about film-making) and Solondz's "Happiness" (since one of the main characters in "State and Main" is the same as the fat and disgusting guy in "Happiness"...good actor, but seeing him here just reminded me too much of the other film).

That said, "State and Main" was still pretty good. I generally like David Mamet's films and plays, and this one was no exception...the writing was good, the casting was (with one exception) good, and they added some nice humorous touches towards the end of the credits. The crowd enjoyed this as well and it almost sold out at the 9:50 show that I saw.

This should do pretty good business and is worth seeing. I guess the only other problem with this is that the film never comes to a really good resolution of several of its major subplots, which could un-nerve many viewers.
