Best short film? Come on!
I was honored to be invited to the Lake Tahoe International Film Festival (and if I'm invited, that officially makes it a SMALL festival) and was completely unimpressed by this film. Many other shorts at this relatively small festival were FAR, FAR superior to this one. If there were so many better films at such a small festival, it's hard for me to imagine how many better short films were presented this year, considering how many other festivals (let alone how many larger festivals) have sprung up all over the country (and world). Could it possibly be that this film was just "well-connected"? It was obvious to me at the festival that this was a film with ties to Hollywood. Unfortunately, the Academy is too worried about TV ratings and stolen statues to actually watch a few short films before nominating them... but even more unfortunately, once they've made their absurd nominations, they still don't even watch the films before deciding who the winner should be!
And one more Academy-slam before I go...
I'm glad that Matrix won the SFX categories, but shouldn't Episode 1 have been at least nominated in the categories of costume design, art direction, and musical score? Tsk, tsk, tsk... Scott is not pleased.

p.s. Hang in there, Frank Darabont... you'll get yours!

keep in mind that most Independant filmmakers making short films are making them out of their own pockets and can't afford the Academy's entry fee, therefor all the crap short films with big name grants behind them usually get the nominations.
