North by Northwest (1959)

  • 8 reels
  • flat 1.66:1
  • mono
  • Warner Brothers Archives (originally an MGM production)
Most of the film is hard-matted to 1.5:1 (VistaVision camera aperture), process shots are hard-matted to 1.66:1.
On Kodak Eastman EXR color print film. Edges say "KODAK 386 ## 1997" where ## varies by reel, hence presumably a 1997 print. Color saturation is awful like the video (not like the DVD, which was heavily processed digitally). But print is otherwise quite nice.

The aspect ration of NxNW is open for debate. Most people prefer to run it at 1.85 (which makes sense, as the other major Paramount VistaVision titles are also 1.85).
