Alas, this hobby is far too expensive and time consuming for a starving university student. So, to pay rent, I'm selling off my beloved Holmes 8, which includes:

Holmes 8 head with standard lens barrel
Custom (smaller and brighter) lamphouse that takes ELH lamps, spares included
Exciter supply
3-point heavy duty cast-iron base with attractive black crinkle finish
Mono solar cell with built-in preamp

and here's where it gets interesting:

the projector can either be run table-top with 2k reel capability, which is the way I've always used it, or you can mount it on the pedestal, switch out the take-up belt and add a machined spacer on the top and it has 6k capability. When running 6k you can add on the xenon lamphouse:

ORC model 1600 for use with 1000 watt or 1600 watt bulb
Power supply: ORC model RPS- X16/25
Input 120/230v 30/12A 60Hz
Output: 22/24 VDC 55/70A
and an adapter is included to plug directly into either a 120v or 220v circuit (recommend the 220v, and a must if you're running 1600w)
1k (used) bulb included. Not sure how many hours. I plugged in the lamphouse and the power supply and they worked great. The heat shield has a crack but it doesn't appear to affect the image or heat blocking ability. I've never set the projector up for xenon operation since it's just been in my room for several years, but the previous owner ran xenon all the time, and I've seen it work. Very old pictures of it's table-top operation can be found at film-tech, under "Brett Rankin private screening room."

And, if you pick it up here, I'll throw in my 5' x 12' screen for free, if you can figure out how to move it. I'd like to sell this within a week if possible, as I'm planning on going back to school next Wednesday.

Price: $1550, preferably for pick up in the Los Angeles area. I can ship but it'll be very expensive. Please email or post here if you have any questions. I'll be posting, hopefully, more stuff as I try to clear out a storage shed worth of stuff. Thanks for looking.

Brett
