Hello Friends,

I am getting crackling noise from my speakers. What could be the reason behind it? Any thoughts or idea?

What speakers? What amplifiers? Every speaker in the auditorium or just one speaker or just one (or two) channels? Continuous crackling? Only when playing a movie? Only when playing non-sync material? Loud crackling that drowns out the desired sound, or you can barely hear the crackling when it's quiet in the auditorium? Just started? Only at certain times of the day or always?

Etc.

Besides a somewhat more refined problem description, it might also help to give some insight in the equipment you're using, like server/projector combination, audio processor, amps and speakers.

It seems it was basically an OS issue and not directly related to the sound Hardware. Thanks a lot guys.

Heather

I would not expect to receive any technical support from this forum if you don’t take some time to give users some details and, even most importantly, if you cant be bothered to give us more details on what the solution was.

Maybe Heather isn't even related to an actual cinema and only experienced the crackling on her personal computer setup only? I wouldn't know why anyone would register on film-tech to solve such issues, but maybe she googled 'crackling sound' and somehow found this forum...

A lot of our current jobs involve IT these days. Some of us who maintain the projection equipment also have to maintain the manager computers in the offices which are Windows 10. However Windows problems are better solved on other sites than this one.
This does remind me of an odd "woosh woosh" noise that was heard on playback on the original Lego Movie which I resolved by simply rebooting the Doremi Showvault.

Probably the most vague question ive ever seen asked around these parts. It definitely helps to include as much info as possible.

The crackling sound is mostly caused by having problem in connection, someplace between your amplifier and your speaker driver, causing interference.Connection can be bad in many places addressing the issue is very irritating and it sometimes easy to find or sometimes hard.

Uh, not necessarily.... a crackle can be caused by any number of things. That's why people are asking for more information.

Could be caused by:

Bad content audio
Bad AES connection
Problem in the Server
Problem in the Audio Processor and or crossover
Improper room equalization
Bad amplifier channel
Bad driver, either high frequency or low frequency (Or mid if applicable)
Bad wiring in the system on the channel thats crackling.

I probably left out ten other things. But the above are the most common I have run into over the years.
