We have a college that wants to come watch Apocalypse Now as part of their class, but we cannot figure out who holds the rights to it.

We have contacted all the major studios and nobody (including our film booker) seems to know who to talk to.

Anyone have any ideas?

The last theatrical re-release, the Redux Version, was Miramax.

I believe, but don't know for sure, that video rights are still with Paramount Hove Video.

It's possible Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope holds the rights. If not, they'd certainly know who does.

If this is for a classroom use, does who owns the rights even matter? Isn't there an exception for educational purposes?

He said the class wants to watch it in his theater. It doesn't really matter who's watching, what matters is where it's shown. (As ridiculous as that is.)

Mike - since nobody will "claim" it you could probably just play it and not worry about it. If somebody then contacts you later about it, tell them you tried to find out who owned it and couldn't. But it's more likely nobody will care.

Park Circus has the Uk rights, so they'd probably be able to point you in the right direction as far as US rights.

According to our records, we last played it on August 6, 2013, and the DCP drive shipped directly from American Zoetrope.
