Hi guys.
Im having problems with 2 dolby 3D systems, they start to have problems rigth after the warranty expire.....
my local support tech first told me to insert a second activate 3D instruction in the 3D macros just to send twice the comand.
im asking for the proper maintenance because the only thing i can do is to clean it with compressed air. they said that´s correct and is the only thing they do.
Do you guys know any procedure to check the system in order to find why it stops spinning on certain occasions?

I send an e mail to dolby but they said that the technology was created by dolby but the systems are barcos.
and i thing 2 years of work is not enough for an expensive system.

thanks for your help

All of the Dolby 3Ds we've installed are still going strong. That said, I've had to service one (that we didn't install) that had a complaint similar to yours. If they switched to a non-Dolby 3D format and back, it would start up again. We ended up changing the Dolby 3D module to restore reliable service.

Things to check..make sure you are on (at least) Barco 1.12.160 (if you have a Barco "C" or "B" projector) as there were Dolby 3D updates along the way. Things to check include the cable between the 3D module and the signal backplane (reseat the connector at both ends). Reseat the Cinema Controller module (it controls the Dolby 3D module).

Also...see if the logs give you any clue as to why it is stopping.

Barco now has the stepper motor as well as the PCB on the 3D module as service parts (YEAH). I would be inclined to believe PCB on the controller...it does take some UV radiation and there are two microswitches on the board to determine the filter position.

Mike, it is true that the 3D filter wheels and technology behind the system are supplied by Dolby, but the motors, control hardware and software, and everything that ties it all together are supplied by Barco.

Steve's recommendations sound like a great place to start.

Yes it is possible...BUT you now run the risk of have both have issues!

Note, there is a foam rubber loop that protects the flat cable and you have to peel that up...I don't know of anyway to do so without destroying it a little so you should be prepared to replace/repair it or at least stick it back down (hard to describe if you aren't looking at it). The board itself is only held on by screws (3 or 4, I don't recall exactly).

Note, too, you can only pull this off by taking the light engine out and that may require a realignment of things so it isn't an operation one should enter into lightly. It is also only approved by Barco by "Level 2" technicians (in case anything is in warranty).
