I heard mention recently that projector serial number verification for KDM validity may be coming down the pike in the near future and I wondered if anyone had heard anything conclusive on this from a documented source.

If this is in fact the case then can anyone verify what is required for a Series 1 projector with a Dolby DSS100 to allow this to work?

I haven't heard it but it was always possible...the projector is on the TDL. What would probably create bit of an uproar is if they ever start enforcing the "security enclosure" requirement of DCI. Only VPF people were forced into that (Gore Boards or GlueCable). Only one of my non-VPF people got a GORE board but they needed to change the board anyway for HDCP reasons. I suspect there are a lot of Series 1 projectors out there with out the security enclosure and that is a flag that is already checked and clearly not enforced. Personally, I think it is crap to force people to spend money on "your" paranoia. It won't be too much longer before the series 1 projectors start to come out due to lack of reliability and repair parts. In 2019, it will have been 10-years since the last series 1 came off the line.

Maybe we should just let them try it for a release. Once it blows up in their face they will hopefully learn a thing or two.

You can only stretch this paranoia so far... How many leaks have there been due to someone successfully tapping directly into the unencrypted binary data stream on a fully compliant DCI server or projector? I guess it's exactly zero, or else we would've heard about it...
