I'm not sure about the other servers/processors but the user interface on the Dolby DSS200 provides the option to view local content as either "clips" or "packages."

I always select "packages" and ingest from that view -- but is there truly a difference?

A recent screening of a feature had trouble with subtitles. This was the first subtitle issue in a little over a year (since I replaced an unshielded cable with shielded). Hence, I think the cause of this particular issue is different from what we had been previously experiencing.

Other venues that used the same hard drive were not affected, so I don't think we can blame the content or the drive.

Is it possible that this feature was ingested as a "clip" instead of a "package"? (I didn't ingest it, and the operator wasn't paying attention to that.)

I can't seem to find anything definitive to explain why that option exists, and what the key differences are.

Looks like I'm not the only person who doesn't know the answer. I'll report back when I find out.

BTW: Our current feature has subtitles, ingested as "package" and is playing fine.

I believe "packages" is a throwback to the days when movies were larger than a single drive. The package allowed one to span the installation over several drives.

Clips is the proper way to ingest all content now.
