We got a call today about a new VPF program available through Christie. Has anyone hear about this? Any info on it?

I haven't heard about Christie specifically. However, I heard that companies other than Sony were going to offer them again. I believe that at the moment, Sony is the only one offering them. I am sure Cinedigm and Christie will be offering them again as the independents and Drive-Ins find they can't afford projectors and we get to the end of 35 mm.

I got an email about Scrabble Ventures "VPF" program. It is kind of interesting actually. Scrabble is offering a lease-to-own program for the equipment that does not involve credit checks and personal guarantees. Instead, you sign over the rights to your VPF payments and pay a smallish deposit ($6,000-$10,000 depending on which Christie you go with) and then monthly payments ($600-$1000) for 60 months.

Essentially, Scrabble will offer you a pretty normal 5 year lease on the Projector/Lens/IMB/NAS regardless of your credit by signing over your VPF payments to them.

Certainly this is a bad deal if you are a theater that has the $$ or the ability to get financing for the equipment yourself. But I'm guessing the guys who haven't converted or got into a VPF program yet are exactly the people who don't have the cash or financability to go the more "traditional" VPF route. For those owners, this may be the only way they keep operating once the end of 35mm gets here.
