I have a question for you guys (and ladies) who have "gone digital" -
> How are screen ads from companies like "SCREENVISION" delivered to your theater?
Do they send you a drive full of them every week or do they come some other way?

Just curious- Thanks!

It depends on the company.
I've seen adverts delivered on many DVDs, and then you create a playlist every week, according to a sheet you receive.
Alternatively, they deliver an "Ad pack" on a HD, which contains all the weekly adverts for all cinemas. Then, you receive a CPL by email, you load it and you have your playlist already done on your server. No need to do it manually, and no need to delete single spots one by one when not needed anymore, you just delete the old ad pack.

ScreenVision (technicolor) send out the ads each week on thumb drives.

Do they still come as individual :30 and :60 spots that need to be assembled in a specific order (into a playlist, in this case), or do they just send out one DCP for the entire ad reel?

Scott, they come as individual spots that would need to be inserted into a playlist. One large combined ad for each rating (one each for F/S) would be ideal, but likely won't happen.

in France, most - if not all - Ads and trailers come thru "network" transport (whoever the provider: Smartjog, GlobeCast, Ymaginet, ...).

Rare are those that goes by physical way now.

Digitalization is 80% of the screens (last screen digitalization should be 100% within 6 next months).

The screen vision come both ways one for set by rating assembled by them and then the individual ads. We normally use assembled ads by rating.

We have digital hard drives delivered each week from Dolby (Pearl & Dean) which we ingest into the server.

Just as Marco said, the drive contains all the ads for all cinemas for that week. We are emailed an 'AdReel' (like a KDM for Ads) which splits up the drives contents into playlists for each film or suitable certificate for the week.

We also complete 'Certificate of Exhibitions' online via a Dolby website portal where we submit the film name against each 'AdReel'.

A good system overall - however sometimes I do miss the days where I had to sort out green and black week 35mm ad reels with ads to insert and remove etc!

Not sure what DCM (in the UK) have as a system, although I wouldn't have thought it would be much different.

At Carmike the Screenvision adds get downloaded via satilite to a server (separate from the Christie sever rack) and built and played automatically via dedicated servers mounted on the wall that also played movie tunes before the preshow. Only thing they ever had to do was call and report a problem if one ever arose.

We get them through Smartjog (satelite). We used to get complete packages on USB stick but now we get seperate clips through Smartjog, works great but is also a bit more work.

But much easier then when we worked with 35mm with sepperate reels of course.
