Probably a dumb question but will a server work with a regular video projector? Does it actually have to be a 2K or 4K digital projector?

The answer is no. It could work if you converted the dual HDSDI output to DVI or what ever input signal your video projector acccepts but that sort of defeats the high inherent quality available via dual link HDSDI. The content would also have to be non-encrypted because regular video projectors do not contain an enigma to decrypt the content. The whole idea is self defeating. As for 2K or 4K... it doesn't matter in a D-Cinema system becuase the server "knows" what kind of projector it is talking to. If the server "sees" a 2K projector the server feeds the 2K projector 2K content and so on. The interpolation between the two is done in the server. 4K also requires a higher speed data connection between server and projector than the typical dual link HDSDI cables. PCIe is used and in the near future Cat 6 and fiber link can and will be used.
I hope this helps...

Mark
