Is it too early to make a statement about the durability of digital equipment? For those who have had the equipment over a year, have you had any major expenses to repair the equipment?

I would not say that it is too early since there are install that
are over 4 years old. The main factor in keeping maintenance
costs down on the server side, is dust cleaning and keep a check
on fan issues ( vibration and failure ).

I would suggest, if you can clean the server yourself, the
total maintenance cost for 4 years is likely to be under $1K. It
could even be $0 as many are. The drives will probably need
replacing sometime during the 10 year life, but that may not be
a bad thing, as drive sizes increase along with performance.

All servers are designed to last for at least 10 years ( with
proper maintenance ). Many will last substantially longer than
that, especially those that are reasonably maintained.
