The other day I went to see Sanctum 3D, and there was an odd effect during the adverts and trailers. I could see a red 'ghost' image to the left of the main image. For example, if there was some white text in the middle of the screen, that same text would also appear flickering red offset to the left of the screen.
What was more curious is that the red ghost image was appearing outside the normal boundaries of the image, on the usually unprojected left edge of the screen.

Other than that, the image appeared perfectly fine with the correct colors and the 3D working as it should during the trailers.

I went out and told the staff, and the projectionist rebooted the server (then advanced it straight to the movie so it wouldn't play the adverts again). After rebooting, the red ghost disappeared and the image was perfect for the rest of the movie.

Any of you guys had similar problems that needed a server reboot? Or know why the ghost image was appearing outside the regular boundaries of the image?

Maybe they were playing flat in a scope screen setting ('pillarbox'). That means, there was unused panel/screen estate left and right from the centered flat ads/trailers - unused, unless the server in it's wisdom decides to put something there.
