I see, on the Dolby site, that the DSS200 is supposed to be able to handle MPEG-2.

from http://www.dolby.com/professional/solutions/cinema/digital-cinema.html
quote:
The Dolby Digital Cinema solution supports the JPEG 2000 playback format, as specified by DCI, and also supports MPEG-2, ensuring compatibility with alternative content such as preshow advertising.
Has anyone put that in to practice?

I can create content that I want to put on there and I can even use Apple's Compressor to create MPEG-2 versions of the content. But how do I let the server know how to use it?

I'm finding the Dolby site and lack of documentation very unhelpful.

They still need to be in MPEG-2 Interop DCI Format, so, no plain MPEG-2 files - the DSS200 will only ingest DCI file structures.

Wrapping MPEG-2 into MXF may appear a bit complicated at first, but there are a couple of free tools now. At least you save the J2k encoding time.
However, they still will have to be scaled to 2k, so recompression will be necessary for most standard format sources.

Watch the thread 'DCP creation software for windows'!
