Here is a work-in-progress list of the theatres that have/will have the Real D digital projection system and are expected to play Disney's "Meet The Robinsons" beginning March 30.

The list as of Mar. 6 represents, I estimate, about 2/3rds of the domestic Real D/Disney Digital 3D/whatever 3D bookings. AMC, Regal, Cinemark and a few other exhibitors announced this week their intention to install a lot of systems by the end of the month, so expect the list to grow.

Estimates are around 700 worldwide 3D bookings of "Meet The Robinsons." (I believe that number represents multiple bookings in the same venue.) This represents a significant increase in installs since the 84 for "Chicken Little" and 168 for "Nightmare Before Christmas."

I'll update the list as new installations/bookings are confirmed or when Real D or Disney issue a press release.

[EDIT: Now that the thread has exceeded one page, updates to the list will be made as a new post so that readers won't need to backtrack to the original page.]

Dolby will be demoing their new 3D system at Showest this year and if its good it will no doubt kill the Real-D system. I always felt that Real-D stood for Real-Dum... describing those foolish enough to pay the rediclous fees and royalties each year just to show one or two films... almost as bad as Imax.

The new Regal Valley River Center Stadium 15 in Eugene is advertising "Eugene's First Digital 3D Theater" with a 3D engagement that opens March 30th, but they don't specify the title (the ad is running in this week's issue of Eugene Weekly). It has to be "Meet The Robinsons".

Does the new Dolby system use the same crappy "alternating eyes on the screen" technique?

Oh, and does it warble like their CP650s?

Darryl & Mike: Are these systems installed and up & running, or have you been told they'll be installed by the end of the month?

The list has been updated, by the way. About 50 new locations have been added.

I've been told Charlestowne 18 will be ready in time, but it's not done yet.

Anyone know if the El Capitan will be projecting from the same set-up they used for Chicken Little? With Dual projection and static circular polarizers rather than the single/active Z-filter? THat may be why I didn't see some of the problems others reported with the film (dim image, strobing, etc.)

The list in my initial post has been revised. LOTS of new venues added.

And, it looks like several decent-sized markets will be getting their first taste of D-Cinema, including:

Albuquerque, NM
Buffalo, NY
Jacksonville, FL
Pittsburgh, PA
Sacramento, CA
Syracuse, NY
Tucson, AZ

***** ATTN: DOREMI Servers using CINELISTER *****
***** AccessIT systems may be ok, but you may want to ask *****

In order to play 2D trailers for MTR, you need to upgrade your software version to at least 0.5.1-18.

Special 48 fps - 2D trailers will not be sent this time.

You need to get with your engineer so they can start doing whatever they need to do to get it.

The 2 AMC monster-plex theatres in Central Ohio added digital screenings today, so I'm just speculating that they might also be on the ROBINSON's list. Again, that is purely a guess.

Revision: The day after the first digital listings at AMC locally, the digital unit at Easton is still advertised, but the digital screenings of 300 at Lennox are nowhere to be found.

The St. Louis region will be getting their first D-Cinema installations.

Wehrenberg Theatres to Debut Digital Cinema

Circuit will convert several auditoriums from 35 mm to digital projection

St. Louis, MO (March 9, 2007) -

Wehrenberg Theatres announced today it has signed a contract with REAL D, an industry leader in the digital cinema field, to convert five projectors to digital. The new digital equipment will be installed in time for Disney's animated feature Meet the Robinsons opening March 30. As an added feature, the five screens will showcase the film in 3-D!

The Wehrenberg Theatres slated to receive the first five digital screens are the Ronnies 20 Cine, the Galaxy 14 Cine in Chesterfield, MO, the St. Charles 18 Cine, the O'Fallon 15 Cine in O'Fallon, IL and the Galaxy 16 Cine in Cedar Rapids, IA. Following the digital debut of Meet the Robinsons, more screens will convert to digital in these theatres, bringing the total to 27 screens.

Digital cinema offers several new features for movie-watchers, and new venues for the theatres themselves. Digital cinema truly presents a film the way its director intended to show it. Clarity and detail are dramatically improved with digital, and the range of colors available grows to 35 trillion shades.

As is evident with Meet the Robinsons, these new projectors provide movie-goers with amazing 3-D technology for select films. Innovations in digital filming and editing make eye-popping 3-D effects easier every year, so more and more blockbusters are able to offer 3-D shows. Wehrenberg Theatres will lead the way in bringing these movies to guests.

Movie-goers will also love the fact every showing of the film remains as high quality as the previous. Whether a guest sees a film on opening night, or the last day of its run, there is no deterioration or fading. Digital movies are immune to the imperfections of regular 35 mm film, such as scratches, pops or skips.

However, digital projectors do more than improve the quality of the movies themselves; they also offer exciting new programs not often associated with movie theatres. Because digital equipment can plug into fiber optics or satellite, movie auditoriums can feature live concerts, sporting events or television programs on screens that make plasma TVs look tiny.

“Wehrenberg Theatres has always been on the front lines when it comes to bringing new technologies to our guests,” said Ronald P. Krueger, Chairman and Co-CEO of Wehrenberg Theatres. “Whether it's the Mega Screen, IMAX or state-of-the-art sound and seating, we relish the opportunity to introduce these innovations to our guests.”

Ron Krueger II, President of Theatre Operations, added “Digital movies are the way of the future for this industry. Not only are we improving the quality of our presentation, but we are breaking new ground in the entertainment industry. We can't wait for the challenges and opportunities this will bring us.”

Wehrenberg Theatres currently operates fifteen cines in Missouri, Illinois and Iowa. Three new theatres are on the horizon in Bloomington, IL, Rochester, MN and Fenton, MO.

Having celebrated its 100th Anniversary in 2006, St. Louis-based Wehrenberg Theatres is the oldest family-owned and operated theatre circuit in the U.S. Ronald P. Krueger, 3rd Generation, Chairman and Co-CEO of Wehrenberg Theatres. Ronald P. Krueger, 4th Generation, President of Theatre Operations. # # #
