I've heard that the new AMC in Toronto will be all (or at least mostly?) D-cinema with Sony 4K projectors and Sony servers. I haven't seen or even heard of a Sony D-cinema server. Does anyone have any info?
And why is AMC in love with Sony in general? Almost all the older "analog" AMC screens here have either DFP-3000 processors or Ultra Stereo processors and a DFP-2000. I think the four oversize screens in each complex now have SRD via a DA-20 (or via a CP650 or CP500 replacing the original processor) but the remaining screens are still Sony/USL.

Sony does have a computer division, but I think they are basically only for the consumer market -- laptops and desktops. From there it won't be a big leap to manufacture higher tech servers. They could sell their system to a bunch of theatres and after a few years, stop their support of them.

You don't think AMC actually paid for those Sony Projectors do ya??? Sony still owes AMC a great debt from the SDDS debacle.

I think its silly to say that AMC is in love with Sony and therefore they are installing Sony projectors. Its hard to just ignore a technology that offers four times the resolution of DLP. At the least I give AMC credit for shooting higher than "good enough" (essentially HDTV resolution) for theatrical exhibition. (Insert 8 channel vs. 6 channel remark here.)

It would be nice if TI developed a 4k DLP chip, but I realize that is little more than a pipe dream.
