The DLA-RS4000, JVC’s top of the line in luxury home projectors, ships this October at a suggested sale price of $175,000. ISF and THX certified, the DLA-RS4000 utilize a trio of 4K2K D-ILA devices to provide an impressive 10 megapixel image at a 4,096 x 2,400 resolution. For those keeping score, that’s four times the resolution of 1080p.

In fact, the DLA-RS4000 is able to display four separate 1080p images at once. That means four system linked Xbox 360s or PS3s at once, or one screen for each of four simultaneous football games. A Xenon lamp provides 3500 ANSI lumens and features adjustable lamp power for various settings. Wire Grid polarizers in the optical engine help to eliminate light leakage and a unique liquid crystal orientation give the DLA-RS4000 a native contrast ratio of 10,000:1.

Video processing, signal switching, and scaling are handled by the RSVP4 video processing unit, which also features audio delay compensation and three separate gamma tables. A special feature of the RSVP4 allows certified specialists to calibrate a pair of custom gamut memories, giving the system a bit of flexibility for different source materials and settings.

Remote adjustments are enabled thanks to RS-232C and Ethernet connections, and the DLA-RS4000 can even shoot you out an email when the lamp needs replacing. Jack Faiman, VP of JVC’s Visual Systems Division calls the DLA-RS4000 “The ultimate projector for discerning home theater enthusiasts. Not only does it produce amazing images for movies, sports, and video games,” he added “but its smaller footprint and incredible flexibility make it the ideal premium home theater projector for custom installations

You gotta be kiddin! $175,000 are you sure thats not Yen? You can buy a 4K Sony for 73K complete! 4K DLP will be competing in that price area too... You could equip two rooms with 4K DLP and have dough left over to put the best seats made in your two screening rooms.

Even if someone could stick a 4K home theater projector in their home, what the hell are they going to play on it that features native 4K resolution?

I think Toshiba just recently announced a 4K resolution LCD-TV set. Again, what is a customer going to play on it? The only use I see for a 4K TV set is that of a high resolution computer monitor. I really could get use out of a 4000 line computer monitor. But there is no such thing as Blu-ray movies or any form of home HD for that matter featuring anything above 1080p resolution.

Bobby, you'd just buy two copies of each Blu-ray movie and play them back simultaneously to get 4K resolution. Duh!

The JVC 4K2 automatically upscales sources of lesser resolution to a 4K image. I saw it at Cedia and it delivers an amazing bright image.

However, it's just not practical for most home theaters... To heavy, too large, too power hungry.

The newest JVC high end consumer LCOS projectors also look amazingly good for a tenth of the price of this behemoth.
