I thought I'd make an entirely new thread on this "Ultimate Experience" so you are all aware of the shotty service this chain gives. They also run other stores in the Colorado area under another name that I cannot remember.. Perhaps Joe does though.... So Joe, if you do please post that name here as well.

So its been about another month and still nothing from them on my Mitsubishi HD receiver repair. Its been over 4 months now. So I called the guy at the Brickyard store again and he said he would check on it and call back. I never received a call back yesterday.

I went to the Circuit City near where I work and bought a new Motorola receiver instead as I have gotten tired of missing all the off air DTV/HDTV thats available out here(18 channels!). Got to watch Jay Leno in HDTV again at last! PBS is also looking better and better than it ever has.

I'm still going to hold them to getting the old one repaired as I have two HD sets at home and could still use the MITS tuner. I'm about to turn it all over to a lawyer though...... The type of treatment I have received there so far is totally unacceptable. This retail chain is a joke!

Yeah, they do suck... I walked in there once. And it wasn't busy at all and I know the salesmen saw me. But he just looked at me like I was just some kid. No greeting or "can I help you". It was like he knew I wasn't gonna buy anything. Well, yeah I'm not gonna buy anything... I could get the same stuff cheaper somewhere else. Customer service sucks there.

The Colorado version of Ultimate Electronics is "Soundtrack." I do agree their customer service could be better (along with their prices). My father had no end of hell trying to get a replacement remote for his Denon DVD-A changer. One of his German Shepards ate it. A long time had passed and he finally had to go to Denon directly for a replacement.

Here's something I think really sucks about the Ultimate Electronics situation. They have little competition in the brick and mortar stores department. If you want any kind of mid-range to high-end electronics item (outside of HDTVs), you often have to avoid the Best Buys, Circuit Citys and other department stores because they mostly carry low end stuff anymore. If you're looking to spend $1000 or more on a receiver, you'll probably have to visit Ultimate Electronics or search on the Internet and order something through the mail --and that's what I've been doing lately.

Where is the original thread, Mark?

It is obvious that Ultimate Electronic's/Soundtrack's staff if not at all interested in assisting the customer... especially AFTER thay already have your money. Here in Denver we also have Listen Up, which is much better.

Most of those Big Box stores are terrible for anyone who is a high-end audio/video enthusiast. Their so-called " high end " is usually a few shitty Bose speakers and a H/K receiver. I'm not knocking Harman Kardon, but one thinks of higher end equipment, H/K isn't on the list.

Bose? come on, I was told by one of the "audio experts" at Radioshack that RCA is so much better, it must be true, he should know, he's an "expert"!

I once bought a simple, Sony car radio/cassette player from Ultimate Electronics and, less than a year later, the AM radio reception became much weaker than it had been. After they repaired it there was no difference. When I returned it again, every time I spoke with a staff member the first thing each one asked was if I had installed it myself. I suppose someone thinks that's relevant but it sounded instantly insulting, implying that I was an idiot who didn't know how to install a car radio without breaking it. I guess the 18 year-old kid in their installation department is on a break from his studies at MIT. I guess the customer is always wrong when it comes to Ultimate Electronics.

Eventually, they allowed me to take a display model of the same radio to my car, plug it in and demonstrate to an employee that, indeed, my radio wasn't as strong as the display model. So they let me keep the display model. But a few years later its reception also dropped off. So now I avoid both Ultimate Electronics and Sony car radios.

So I never did hear back from the salesman that promised he'd call back last Thursday... he is also the supposed assistant manager of the Brickyard store... I think the abreviation for assistant is ass and thats exactly what this guy is.

Today Ibypassed the store altogehter I called Ultimate Electronics Service Department and talked to a lady there that admitted to me that the tuner was never sent by the Brickyard store to them to foreword to Mitsubishi for repair. So I can unequivocally call the people at the Brickyard store Liars. I have given them 2 weeks to get the tuner repaired(assuming they can even find it) and back to me. This is the amount of time that Mitsubishi thought it would take for the repair in theor facility. In two weeks if they don't come through I am turning this all over to an an attorney for his consideration of what would be the best approach to go after them.

I'm curious, what do all of you think is the approach that I should use with them? I feel like I've been Mr. Nice guy long enough.

Don't let the local mega ripoff joints jerk you around. Get in their faces.

Is it really that hard to give the customer good service?

Latest report from their service department finally has the tuner at Mitsubishi for repair. So we'll see just how long Mistubishi takes on their end. In iorder to get any action I threatened them with notifying a local news guy what had tanspired with this repair. He wouold of course make it all publicly known on the evening news and he always has sucess at what he persues. The folks at Ultimate didn't seem too receptive to the posibility of him poking around their store with a camera crew.

In the mean time my new Motorola HD tuner is working just fine along with my Samsung LCD flat panel TV in the other room. The picture quality, number of DTV channels on the air, and the reception I get are almost beyond belief.
