If you had free reign and were opening up an independent video store (not even a franchise), what would you call it? (if it helps, let's say that this store was going to only rent DVDs).

What are some of the wittiest named video stores that you've seen before?

I hope this topic is appropriate/belongs in this thread.

FORGET IT.

If you are thinking of running a video store, there is no way to really profit anymore from this.

I used to be part of a fairly large franchise called MovieBuffs, based out of Utah. We were killed by a few bad publicity stories and some expensive legal fees, and then the incoming of Hollywood video.

The policy of Hollywood video is to build and attack. If you have a successful outlet, so much as one store, Hollywood Video will build a new expensive and pretty location near yours, advertise like crazy, and then laugh when you file bankruptcy.

HOWEVER...

If you are deadset on video suicide...

How about...

Home Bocks Office....

It is just different enought to maybe not get sued...

And you can call it instead of HBO...

"HMBKSOFF"

Seriously though, how about this one..

"Non-Wallet-Raping Home Video Enterainment Place"

Dave

Evans: Funny! [Big Grin]

Dave: We don't have Hollywood Video in Australia. We have Blockbuster, though. They have both corporate run stores as well as franchises.

Are you saying that Hollywood video are WORSE?

Dave, I have always considered Blockbuster the one who moves in and puts everybody out of business. Here in Charleston, we literally have 2 Blockbusters across the street from each other. Idiots. I consider Hollywood Video the lesser evil.

Michael, what about : Rom Videos
Wholesale DVD Rentals
CHM DVD Rentals - what the CHM stands for, I have no idea.

I never rent from either Blockbuster or Hollywood Video (though I like to buy the second hand DVD from Blockbuster as they can be really cheap). In both cases there rental fees are really high. There are several local chains and independants that rent videos (DVDs) for much cheaper.

In order to catch the eye of scrupulous punters and make the most of the consumer wave of excitement in home entertainment, I suggest:

DR.DIGITALS DTS96/24 6.1 DIGITAL HOUSE OF DIGITAL MOVIE RENTALS. DIGITAL! (Now with digital booking feature)
[thumbsup]

I'd sure as shit use it!

Later!

How about:

Horny Harry's Homophobic Hut (for a straight-only porn shop)

Victor's Video & Vasectomy (watch a movie while you get nipped -- for the guys)

Maria's Movies & Mammograms (for the girls)

Ralph's Raunchy Rentals (porn shop)

I don't know what you're being paid or by whom, but it's not enough. You should do stand-up comedy or make movies or something. I'd be there! [Big Grin]

Is it just me, or do others here get a huge belly laugh from each Joe Redifer post?

My friend was manager of the cleverly originally-named, "Video Superstore" until they closed the location with a whopping 2 days notice to him.

The one thing I liked about the place is that they would take good care of the original cases that the DVDs came in, so when it came time to sell them previously-viewed, the covers would be brand new with all the inserts in them.

Not like Blockbastard who, for reasons unknown, stick the artwork (sometimes modified! DVDs that come in special packaging have just the front PHOTOCOPIED!) into a shitty store DVD case that says BLOCKBUSTER all over it, with NO inserts, and a "BLOCKBUSTER" sticker over the hub of the DVD. [Mad] [fu] Why would ANYONE buy used DVDs from this place for the prices they charge?!?! I should go check out their dumpster to see where all the original cases go...
