Anyone have any opinions on this 2 disc set? I just picked up a copy of it for $14.44 at a new Wal-Mart Supercenter that opened up on the west side of town (much to the chagrin of the folks across 67th street in their $500,000-and-up homes).

Overall, I think this one is a pretty big improvement over the previous two editions --mainly due to a better 16x9 enhanced video transfer. There are still visible problems with this print though. Another noticeable plus is the new DD-EX 5.1 and DTS-ES 6.1 Discrete audio mixes. The only nit I have to pick with the audio on this one is it seems to have a little too much treble to it.

The movie itself? Sure, it is NOT a Merchant-Ivory picture. But it has its fun moments. And there are moments that are fun to ridicule (like all those static shots of Jaye Davidson just pouting for the camera in his pyramid spaceship while all the action is happening outside).

I had to buy The Stargate DVD from America as you canot buy it in Australia.

I thought the picture quality was good but certinly not great, the sound on the other hand was a different story.the opening titles with the theme playing sounded great and very dynamic and the other bit which stood out was when they opened the gate for the first time, the bottom end shook all the windows in my house.

Great sound can deffinently improve a movie.
