The third in the series, this film lacks any kind of message. Rather its value lies in reprising the action/sarcasm formula of the first two films.

Tyne Daly provides an interesting twist as Harry's police partner but at times is unconvincing in being totally green.

A classic bit of dialogue in this film is as follows:

Harry: Alright, I'm standing on the street corner and Mrs. Grey there comes up and propositions me. She says if I come home with her, for five dollars she'll put on an exhibition with a Shetland pony.
Mrs. Grey: If this is your idea of humor, Inspector...!
Examiner: Alright, what are you trying to do here Callahan?
Harry: I'm just trying to find out if anybody in this room knows what the hell law's being broken- besides cruelty to animals.

Classic sarcasm indeed.

I rather enjoyed the shots of Alcatraz as well. If there is one common thread in both What's Up Doc and the Dirty Harry films it is that they showcase what a pretty city San Francisco is. I was there two years ago and ejoyed it very much. Mind you I didn't go into the Tenderloin!

Verdict: Not as thought provoking as the first two but still quite entertaining. I gave it 70%.

cheers Peter

That was one of my favorite lines in that movie.
