I decided to have a look at this famous film as I have previously seen the Japanese film on which it is based, Seven Samurai

The Magnificent Seven is an ok film and stars a lot of big name actors. Eli Wallach stands out in his role as the bandit leader but the performances of the other main actors are just satisfactory.

This film did not follow the original's fault of being overly long (Seven Samurai is 208 minutes long) however I felt that they played with the plot a bit too much here. The original film can be described as a long struggle building to a final battle and viewers are built up to the final battle but the battles here are over fairly quickly.

All in all I'd put it a class below Seven Samurai but it is entertaining.

verdict: 75%

cheers Peter
