Hi Joe,

I'm a massive fan of the CP500 for what it is, but having had one installed for over 20 years now I'm not sure I'd recommend one unless there is something you need on it.

A CP45/55/65 or even CP650 if you can afford would be better alternatives as the CP500s were temperamental when they were new with all their first generation "digital" electronics and now they're all getting on a bit the problem's only getting worse.

Hi, I recently purchased one off eBay to hook up to my 35mm system at home. It was an ex-Cineworld owned bit of kit and works fine.

There is a CP500 on sale on eBay now for £70: Ebay Link Dolby CP500

I’m not a great fan of the 500 either , I had one for several years in a home set up but replaced it a few years ago with a cp45 ( I know , not Dolby’s finest moment either,) but as I just use sr , it gives better results in my opinion . You can eq it much more easily than a 500. If you want digital go for a cp650 although setting up digital at home , unless you have all the necessary equipment , is not easy . Either way you should be able to pick up a 500 on eBay for very little . Or try a cinema , some still have old kit lurking in cupboards .
