Are the ceramic disks in the trap supposed to spin or just keep tension on the film?

The ceramic discs are the lateral guide rollers, and should revolve a little as the film travels through the gate. If they dont revolve the edge of the film will wear a groove in them, and become incorrectly positioned at the aperture. The discs should be removed and cleaned regularly (they just pull out against the sprung shaft which hold them) and the dirt in the space behind them should also be removed.
