Does anybody know there was ever a bracket to mount an XL on a simplex base without a using a soundhead?

yes, for the three and five point bases it was part #A-116-L There was also one made to fit the LL1-4 enclosed & heavy duty bases. They were used in studio for process projection. I have one on an LL3 Super Simplex base with a silent Super Simplex. On the enclosed bases there was a motor mount cast into the bracket also. The three and five point bases had the motor mount cast into the top section of the base.
