Interesting Page here on Japanese Projectors; The first part concentrating on TOKIWA but as you scroll down to the Pictures of "Projectors of the Past" you get a pretty good idea of who's design was copied from American Mfgers. Prior to the Chinese becoming the ultimate Cloners in the World,The Japanese up til the 70's did the same.

A company in our town back in the 70's that made POOL TABLES and had designed a Table with an innovative Ball return thought they were going to sell 1000's of these to some Japanese Business People who came over to Scout this table out. They had their 35mm Cameras taking every possible angle picture and feature the Table had.Big mistake by the Billing's Company owner to let them photograph any more than the outside of the Table; as not only did he get even one order for Tables; a company in Japan had Cloned the exact same Table with all the new design features and were probably selling 1000's of the tables in their own Country as well as to other foreign markets....Rule of Thumb when you have designed something innovative and have potential buyers. No camera shots aside from Standard Features already in View. Asian Countries are the Cloning Masters of the World...
