I had the takeup control board go out on a SPECO LP280 platter system. I won't be converted to digital for a couple of months yet so I need to get this working again. We can't find a replacement part at this time. I also posted a "Wanted" ad in the classified on here but I'm posting in here too because I'm hoping someone may know a "work around" fix for this problem. The takeup platter runs all the time and is at the same speed. The problem is on all the platters whereever the takeup pully is placed.
The bad control board is the small rectangular one located inside the takeup control assembly on the platter tree. It has small black U shaped pieces on one side that the metal channels run up and down in to control the speed of the takeup platter.
All three platters work fine for payout and we exchanged all three large boards in the main board area on the platter side of the tree. Nothing fixed the problem until we took a good/working takeup assembly off a different platter system and took the control board out and tried it on this one, then it worked fine. So I'm pretty sure we have it narrowed down to the correct piece we just can't seem to find one we can buy. Speco last updated their parts and price list in 2007 and we haven't been able to contact them. If anyone has any suggeestions on who to contact please let me know. Or if anyone knows a way to repair or bypass this control board, please help!! Thanks you, Tim Davis 612-390-0415 or email me at timdavis@scicable.com

It sounds like the LED's in the takeup control are dimming which is causing the system to think the rollers have fallen and it needs to takeup the slack or the "electric brake" relay isn't catching but I think there's one for each deck which would rule it out since all 3 are affected.

As for a direct replacement to the LED I can't say what that would be exactly. Hopefully one of the more experienced hands could tell you.

Good luck!
