Tomorrow night our theatre will be playing "Singin' in the Rain".

The aspect ratio is 1.37, but the closest lens and aperture plate we have to that is 1.33.

How much of a difference will playing a 1.37 film with a 1.33 lens and aperture plate make?

Thanks for the help.

It depends. Lots of people refer to the Academy frame as "1.33," even though it actually is 1.37:1. If that is true in your case, you should be fine.

On the other hand, if your "1.33" lens and plate are actually intended for showing full silent aperture prints (which actually are 1.33:1...mostly), then you will see the soundtrack on the screen and have too much image height. If this is the case, you could probably get away with using the silent lens and your scope aperture plate (which will still give too much image height).

I suspect that the first possibility is more likely. It would be highly unusual for a theatre to have lenses and plates for silent but not Academy.
