May be of interest to this group...

The American Cinematheque will be screening Fox's latest 70mm restoration of Cleopatra at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood on Saturday, 7 May 2011 at 7:30pm. Ticket price for Cinematheque non-members is $11.00 USD. As their promo release says, "What better place than the Egyptian to see Cleopatra?"

I'm planning on being there for this. Hope my bladder holds out during this screening - it's a 4h08m 70mm experience! Just gotta be back in 'Vegas the next day in order to fly out to San Diego for another four days of digital installs in Mira Mesa.

WOW! I'll be there for certain.

Paul, is it the AMC Mission Valley? Pity, really. What's going to happen to their 35 stuff?

I saw it in NYC (can't remember the theatre, but it was on Broadway, so probably the Rialto and yes, 70mm of course). But I remember it was a hard room as will happen when a film is not quite on target. New Yorkers won't be coy about their displeasure if they didn't like what they are seeing or hearing. I remember people actually hollering out remarks when some of that aweful dialog was being spoken. I think at one point Ms. Taylor says something like decidedly modern colloquial like "I have a headache," to which someone yelled out, "Yah, you're giving us one too -- take an aspirin, Lizzy." Lots of moans and jeers like that throughout.

New York is not the place to screen a movie with hokey dialog.

Frank, "Cleopatra" opened (June13, 1963) over at the Rivoli Theatre and played for 64 weeks in 70MM Todd-AO. [thumbsup]

The restored soundtrack is a lot of fun, it's a Datasat digital soundtrack encoded from the restored original masters - 5 screen channels & mono surrounds.
