One of my strong A3 variacs has developed what i will call a "dead spot." I happened to have a brand new variac in storage so I replaced it earlier today. However, when I turn the power on, the platter was dead. I checked the fuses in the variac and one was blown. Replaced the fuse, and still no power but the fuses are intact. What could be the problem?

I guess I would check for voltage into the variac, and then check for voltrage out of the variac. Are you handy with a meter?

After further investigation, I found a wire that was connected to the wrong terminal. I corrected the problem and the new variac works great. Must have been an error at the factory.
