i have seen in some videos that 70mm is still in use with a optical scanner replacing the mag box i the chaff cutter and is there any other aussies on this forum

I can't answer your question and don't know if there is any other Aussies on this forum (I never pay any attention to where people are from) but you'd better go read the rules page quick-like before the American moderators start to ban you. Start by changing the name of the thread to something that tells what the thread is about.

Richard,

You're thinking of is the new and very recent RCA Photophone Quadraphintic optical sound track that was developed for 70mm. That has very recently relaced the 70mm DTS time code reader system that was introduced just a few years back... it too was optical but only a single track and hence no fall back. The new RCA system is now in widespread use but perhaps not yet in Austrailia because of patent issues. Apparently Ray Derrick has worked out his own Quadraphintic scheme with a much higher Signal To Noise ratio and wider bandwidth of 12 kmhz(kilomegahurts).

I haven't seen any other Aussies on here but there are some damed funny looking people...

I hope this clears thing up for you down under...
