As a recent convert to the forum, can anybody inform me in laymans terms how to regonfigure the DP3000 SDDS processor to play the non sync with the surrounds instead of just the l and r screen channels. Have both SDDS manuals but they are not entirely straightforward.

I know that in 3000 series non-sync can be configured to go true matrix decoding, as well NR.

First go to www.sdds.com and download the set up software
You will need a null cable to connect your PC to the processor
From that moment you are by yourself .

All of the information you need is archived here on this website. Scroll down to the "software" link for the setup software and look at "sound processors" for all of the known documentation on that unit.
