I recently acquired an old THX 3417 monitor from a nearby theatre that closed.

It's had its THX crossover cards removed. Can it still operate as a monitor only? I have no need for it to process the audio, or even to have audio return out of the monitor. I only want to have it to listen to 6 separate inputs.

I am aware that a few substitute cards exist, but I'm not sure I want to spend a lot of money resurecting this thing (the foam on the front along with the THX badge are missing as well.)

Hi, Scott,

Try the Monitor Amplifier Inputs, the lowest row of connectors on the back of the 3417. You should be able to connect the 3417 in parallel with your amplifiers through the processor outputs without any issues, but (just to be safe) YMMV.

I've got a card-less 3417 in my home setup being fed from the Aux Output of a Sony DFP-D2000 into the Monitor Amplifier Inputs and it works just fine. Good luck! [thumbsup]

Excellent. Thanks guys. I just picked it up today, and the pinouts on the back seem fairly self explanatory. I'll connect it up tomorrow to try it out.
