Got an e-mail out of the blue yesterday offering a selection of
Cine Navitar lenses, a couple happen to be the length we need to replace, 138mm/5 1/2in. What's the chance of them being any better than the ancient Snaplites? we're using as prime lenses on our scope?
The Snaplites are not very good, so an improvement would not take much, focus is inconsistent across the picture, subbing another lens as prime makes a notable improvement. NO room in the budget for new Isco or Schneider right now but we need to do something. Any other suggestions?

Watch ebay. These lenses you describe are much worse than a good super-snaplite. Louis

Cine Navitars were originally sold by Cinema Film Systems... They are multi coated which your Snaplites are not but they are not even as good as the Super Sikkors. Look for good used Schneiders or ISCOs.
