After recently taking over as General Manager of our theater I have noticed our that our projectionists are heavily under trained.

I am looking for any training materials that you may use that would help us out in both presentation of the film and the troubleshooting of issues.

Thanks in advance.

The BKSTS (British Kinematograph Sound and Television Society) publishes an excellent Projectionists' Training Manual and has also recently brought out a new educational Wallchart, Film Handling for the Projectionist.

These can ordered online (with worldwide shipping) here:

BKSTS Wallcharts and Books

US-based posters here can supply details of relevant SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) and other publications, as well as details of Trainers who might be in your area or able to visit your theatre to give hands-on training. I also understand there are training courses run in the US.

Eastman Kodak have some marvellous publications, including the series of educational articles written by the late John P Pytlak under the heading Pytlak's Projection Pointers. There is also their Reel Notes for Reel People series, (see Manuals section of this website to download all) and their two publications The Kodak Book of Film Care and The Reel People Collection.

This website itself is an important training resource. The Tips and Manuals sections are invaluable, as are Searches through the many topics that have been discussed here over the years.

Thanks for your interest, and best of luck [thumbsup]

Brandon in addition to the resources mentioned by Brian if you can expose them to a good, detail oriented projectionist to train them it will help. Nothing replaces being actually "taught" not just reading or being shown proper techniques! Well that is just my opinion but I'm sticking to it!

Do a forum search for "training". Yet another thread about this is not necessary.
