The only thing I can say is the subwooers, for the most part, they were made by Cerwin Vega. It was a shitty speaker, designed to make noise, and it was exactly what it did. There is no place that I know of that will accept those speakers as a general sub-woofer. So be it. It was one of the most non-linear 18-inch speakers that was ever produced. But in the movie Earthquake, it did its job correctly.

UA abandoned them after the movie Earthquake. There may be some floating around in the back room of the old barns.

Sensurround
I experienced Sensurround in Berlin with "Battlestar Galactica", around 1980. It was quite fun for a 12 year old. There was a text before the feature with a warning for people with heart conditions and pace makers.
They still had the stuff in that cinema a few years later. I think in the later 80s they showed "Battlestar" once more.
Later I met a guy who was a projectionist there at that time. He told me how he had to go to the bathroom once during a show. The bathroom was in the basement, and the Sensurround came on while he was sitting on the pot...

The Cerwin Vega subwoofers were used for all subsequent Universal Sensurround movies (Midway, Rollercoaster, Battlestar Galactia) and were re-used by WB for their Megasound system (Altered States, Superman II, Outland, and perhaps one other). The patent documents for the process show great detail on the system and how it worked.

It wasn`t really a good thing for general cinema, just a funny gimmick.
Basically everything started to vibrate, that`s it. It wasn`t like some ultra-subwoofer or something like that.
Although it was quite loud...

After reading the article, I'm a little confused. If all Zoot Suit used was the DBX NR part of Sensurround and not the subs (and even not utilizing Lightsurround), shouldn't the "new" format be called "Sensurround Minus"?.

Or "Sensurround Light". Which gives me a good idea for Phil: since he has designed special venues, he could combine that experience with his adult website and create "Sinsurround"!

What is "Sensaround"? Another fascinating technology I have never heard about.

Michael, I also saw Galactica in Sensurround when I was a kid, in Liège. Although impressive, I now think it was just to enhance the uninteresting 35mm/1.66/optical mono presentation [Cool]

...wonder if my 16mm scope airline print of Midway has control tones. That would really give the wife something to gripe about.
