One question comes to mind with all of these picts that are shown in the Telluride Festival events that are displayed in the Home page of FT in as well as the ones in the pictures section .. is the usage of Brenkhert machinery with RCA soundheads (granted, those two units were like a couple during when Brenkhert were in business and being used...) instead of new machinery - esp. in the Chuck Jones Cinema house.

...Just wondering, for it was apparent of such usage of vintage machinery for events like this.

The festival was on a shoe string budget for years and also Brenkerts and the 9030's were the favorite of Ross Krantz the chief technician who seemed to have an unending supply of these tanks. Most of these theatres run only on the Labor Day weekend and sit idle for the rest of the year.

Brenkerts and 9030 have limitations, but picture and sound performance are top notch consistent with proper TLC.

We now have 4 Century venues and three with Brenkert.

The Abel, Chuck and Nugget are the only venues still running Brenkerts there. I can attest that the pair running at the Chuck, although equipped with those evil "dirt embedding" soundhead boatanchors, put out an absolutely steady picture. I never got to see the Nugget run on screen and the print I saw running at the Abel wasn't something to judge performance by.

The Telluride Film Festival un-official motto, from the fim "King of the Z's" is "Where money is king and Art is no object". We were all trained from the beginning that the film is the most important thing and there is nothing wrong with equipment that is older than me as long as you treat it right and have lots of projector oil on hand. So we kept those Brenkerts spotless. I remember watching John Fahnestock repainting the insides of the "new" Centuries in the Opera House and, despite years of indoctrination by Ross Krantz, was happy to get "new" Centuries in the Nugget. The oil bath the Brenkerts gave every film didn't hurt, I guess, but the booth is much cleaner now.
