Is there any date for XBO lamp that can be stored in original package?

I hear that XBO lamps from Osram may be stored for a 3 year max, so after that they aren't good for use?

I have situation where I install XBO lamps which are been stored for 10-15 year and now they working really fine, and newer have problems with ignition.

Is there any papers where this data can be found, so far I newer saw data like this.

Generally if you store the bulbs in the upright position you will prolong the shelf life of the bulb. Some foam packaging will deterioate if 3 to 5 + years old.

According to Osram USA, there is no shelf life for their bulbs. Warranty is determined only by usage, not storage.

I have many old Osram bulbs from closed theatres, up to 20 years old, that work perfectly. Louis

At one of my sites, i bought a job lot of old Thorn brand Xenons. Thorn stopped making xenon lamps a long time ago. Some of the packing is in a bad way but the lamps way outperform any new lamp. Lamps are 1600 watts in vertical lamphouse.

At one time there was "interchange" between Osram, Tungsram and possibly other similar bulbs. I think Thorn was one of these. Louis

Just had a look back through my lamp logs for this site. 6 years ago i ran a 1600HSC for 3500hours, it again was an old Thorn lamp, it struck first time everytime and only oulled it due to hours run. If i remember right I was told that it had been sitting on a shelf for about 10 years before I had it. An old projectionist used to stock pile lamps at the end of financal year to use his budget. The cinema had a refit and went up in lamp size so he got rid of them.
Did have an interesting one a few months back. I had a lamp back in 2001 that developed really bad flicker after 400hrs. The company ( not saying) would not replace it, I switched brands and happy ever since. Well i came across this lamp in storage so I thought I would try it out again. Put it in and its happily burning now better than the day it was new. Its total hours clocked are now 1600hrs. Lamp is a 1600HSC.
Maybe lamps perform better the older they get [Big Grin]

I believe Thorn and Phillips had a arrangement for Xenon Lamps

I would tend to suspect you originally had the lamp hooked up to a less-than-stellar rectifier, and the second time around you gave it a more-forgiving rectifier...
