I saw OKLAHOMA and the short THE MIRACLE OF TODD-AO projected in 70mm 30fps from a platter at the Fairfax in L.A. back in the early 90s.

Yes.

Christie AW370

Strong 35/70 platters

Kinoton platters with 70mm hardware

etc.
etc.

Most if not all 5/70 platters should be able to handle the extra speed from 30fps...

Ah, I remember that Fairfax screening well!

The platter system sounded like it was going to explode, it was going so fast. But yes, it worked.

That said: There is only one print available in 30 fps mag, "Oklahoma!". And it's not in all that great of shape anymore. I don't think it should be plattered.

Note that SPECO decks would need to be demagnetized for 70mm (or 35mm mag) use.

Related question: How does one convert a Century JJ for 30fps use? Can it be done mechanically, or does one need an inverter or some other type of electronic motor speed control?

The Heights used their 4-deck SPECO LP-270 for Oklahoma! at 30 fps. After a degaussing I was told it was quite the sight.

Most nearly any platter will work. That is not so fast. Warning SOME Stron/Potts 5 deck platters will not accept 70mm at all. Speed is not an issue; but size is (too close together.) Louis

Scott-- On a Century JJ speed change is handled through a
belt-shift.

Manny,
A friend of mine has 70mm change overs and runs 70mm 30fps, we are thinking of trading some prints however, I have only one DP70 and must run a platter....35/70mm 5 deck, and the question came up about the speed........there are only a few 70mm 30fps prints out there.
This is for a private screen room.
Thanks to all that solved the speed issue.
That deck must fly towards the end of the payout.
I'll have to secure the edges some how.
