I have been trying to reach him for weeks now, without success. Does anyone know what is going on? Is he still alive? I haven't actually been able to reach anyone at Cinematech.

I recently heard from the technician we had out to fix our SDDS (because we couldnt get ahold of anyone at Cinematech) that he's still alive and the company is still opperating.
However, like you I hadn't had any luck reaching anyone, getting a returned call, or an answer on the emergency line even.

Wasn't there a thread about this somewhere? I couldn't find it...

I posted this same thing a while back. We have boards into Robbie for repair now for close to a year. No calls back, no replies, no e-mail, no snail mail, no nuttin at all.

Robbie, If you see this you ought to at least have someone else let the rest of the workd know whats up with you......

I don't see how they plan to implement all that when they can't...

1. Answer their phone.

2. Return a simple e-mail.

3. Either repair or return unrepaired some Sony PCB's we have into them.

4. Alert their customers through other means about what is wrong with the company.

Clearly someting is wrong at CimemaTech.

Is this one of final nails in the Coffin of SDDS?

Not necessarly. The DFP-3000 units are very reliable and worth repairing. The DFP-2000 units are the more problematic ones. We've replaced several of the older ones for our customers in the last few months and have quotes out to replace others with CP-650's... Sadly some of those 2000's are on 5 channel screen systems. Keep in mind that all parts (excepting service jigs and tools)are available from Sony Broadcast Parts through any Sony Parts Distributer.

Joseph Electronics in Niles, Ill is a large Sony Parts Distributer if anyone is looking to buy parts. I've been dealing with them since my Broadcast Days back in the late 70's early 80's. They are a very reliable source for Sony Parts.

I will refrain from placing CinemaTech in the Deadbeat thread since I know Robbie is not a deadbeat and that something is probably seriously wrong with him.

I don't believe Ray Callahan is still involved with CinemaTech as he was at ITEA in LA last month pitching his new company, essntially a service organization out of Florida.

Ray joined Cinematech in March 2004. In the world of digital, tenure is sometimes best measured in months. [Wink]

Makes me feel old, still happy with a 36 year career working on motion-picture film at Kodak. [Big Grin]

From what I have heard through the grapevine is Robbie had a heart attack. I understand he is getting better. But that's why noone has heard from him.

That would certainly explain the silence. But I hope it's only a rumor. If not, I hope he recovers quickly and thoroughly.
Still, aren't there other people at cinematech who could pick up the phone? Or maybe not?
