How exactly do I go about programming my CP500 for autodigital? Or in other words, programming my system to pick up a digital track and go to Dolby Digital as soon as the reader finds one?

There is a button available in the CP500 controls sub menu for this but..... not all software versions had the suto digital feature. If you have an early 500 you may need to upgrade the software if you want this function.

Also.... this function can drive your patrons nuts on a print with a marginal digital track binging back and forth between analog and digital. Mark sure that your reader is in top notch shape and check the error readout and if you are running high error readings you ought to consider taking it back out of auto-digital for that print.

Indeed, I always felt it was a stupid feature. The best solution is to simply cue the CP500 into digital when the douser opens. If SRD is there, it will play it. If not, it will play SR and switch to SRD when it appears.

Plus if you should get an abused print that switches back and forth between SRD and SR, simply pressing SR will put an end to it for the rest of the movie without jacking with any menus.

First, you must assign a “source”(SR, for example):

Menu
System setup
Format configuration
Build Format selector
Assign Auto-Digital sources

Then, a little “s” should appear on the right side of “05 format”

Second, you can set the Auto-Digital target (SRD, of course):

Menu
System setup
Format configuration
Build Format selector
Assign Auto-Digital target

That's all. I find it useful, no matter.

Alright, thanks guys.

So I need to cue my CP500 to digital and if it does not find it, the CP500 will play SR. That's what I want. Now I need to figure out how to cue the CP500 from my old Cinematic Automation boxes...

In addition to the instructions given above, you also need to enable auto-digital:

Menu -> Auto Digital Projector 1 (toggle to "enabled")
Menu -> Auto Digital Projector 2 (toggle to "enabled"--if proj. 2 exists)

You can tell if the auto-digital is enabled by looking at the proj select indicator. If there's an "A" beside the P1, its enabled.
I believe v-1.31. was the first version to include this feature.
